The Advanced Seminar of the International Carbon Materials Union (ICMU) Successfully Held in Beijing

  From June 2nd to 5th, on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the implementation of the coordinated development strategy of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, the 6th Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Graphene Conference, one of a series of activities of the 2024 Zhongguancun Forum, was held in Fangshan District, Beijing. The conference was jointly sponsored by the Fangshan District People’s Government, the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Economy and Information Technology, the Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Commission, and the Management Committee of the Administrative Commission of Zhongguancun Science Park. Government officials, experts, scholars, and well-known entrepreneurs from relevant government departments, universities, and scientific research institutes gathered together to share scientific and technological innovation achievements, Exchange experiences in application transformation, and jointly study and discuss the development path of the new material industry.

  As one of the major activities of this conference, the advanced seminar of the International Carbon Materials Union (ICMU) was successfully held on June 2nd. Meanwhile, the Ceremony of Initiative to Build a Global Carbon Materials Industry Community was also successfully held at the conference.

  Ben Fok, Director of Henry Fok Found and Co-Chair of the International Carbon Materials Union (ICMU) said in his speech that he would inherit the spirit of love for China and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of China from his father, and work with all colleagues of the ICMU to create an open and forward-looking international exchange and cooperation platform to promote the development of science and technology industry between Hong Kong, Macao, and Chinese mainland, and between China and the world. We should strengthen the exchange and cooperation of countries and enterprises in the world in technology and products of carbon materials, and use our strength to promote the progress of science and technology and industry of carbon materials in the world.

  Konstantin Novoselov, Laureate of the 2010 Nobel Prize in Physics, Professor at the University of Manchester, UK, and Co-Chair of the International Carbon Materials Union (ICMU), said, “ICMU gathers relevant resources on one platform and makes reasonable use of them, which can effectively help the industrialization of new technologies, and at the same time strengthen cooperation among members of the ICMU and promote global scientific and technological progress.”

  Korn Dabbaransi, Former Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand, President of the Thai-Chinese Relations Association, and Co-Chair of the International Carbon Materials Union (ICMU) is willing to support the establishment of an ICMU branch in Thailand, to facilitate close contact with ASEAN countries. He hopes to build ICMU into an international NGO with the most authoritative and outstanding enterprises and technical resources in the field of international carbon materials and to contribute to the development of the carbon material technology industry and the common progress of mankind.

  Donald Nixon, Co-Chair of the International Carbon Materials Union (ICMU) said that ICMU is a global industrialization platform organization, and he is willing to work with co-chairs to gather top international companies to jointly build this platform, carry out cross-regional and inter-enterprise exchanges and cooperation, and contribute to the progress of human science and technology.

  At the conference, the Appointment Ceremony for Consultants of the International Carbon Materials Union was also held. Mr. Ben Fok, and Mr. Donald Nixon, Co-Chairs of the ICMU, presented letters of appointment to the consultants. On the other hand, a number of ICMU initiators present at the scene jointly proposed the “Initiative to Build a Global Carbon Materials Industry Community”.

  In the keynote speech session, Denis Koltsov, Chair of the ISO Technical Committee 229 (ISO TC/229, Nanotechnology) and Vice Chairman of the International Carbon Materials Union (ICMU), made a report online.

  Experts and scholars from home and abroad made keynote speeches such as Focusing Both on Research and Market to Promote the Development of the Graphene Industry, Development Status of the Graphene Industry in China, Vision of Standardization of International Carbon Materials Union, Corporate Globalization Strategy and International Standards, Research on the Application of Graphene in the Field of Architecture and other keynote speeches. Nearly 400 experts and scholars at home and abroad, representatives of international organizations, initiators, and entrepreneurs participated in the discussion and exchange.

  On June 3, an unveiling ceremony was held by the Working Committee of the International Carbon Materials Union (ICMU). Liu Xiaokan, Vice Chairman of Beijing Association for Science and Technology, Li Guangming, Deputy District Chief of Fangshan District People's Government, Ben Fok, Director of Henry Fok Found and Co-Chair of International Carbon Materials Union (ICMU), Tang Peifu, Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Guo Fu, President of Beijing Information Science and Technology University and the Chairman of Beijing Advanced Materials Industry Promotion Association, Cai Yongxiang, Director of Beijing New Materials and New Energy Technology Development Center, Zhao Huanqun, Deputy General Manager of Sinopec Yanshan Petrochemical Company, Zhang Kai, Deputy General Manager of Sinopec Catalyst Co., Ltd., Chen Qiang, Senior Consultant of the International Carbon Materials Union, and William Liu, Secretary-General of the Beijing Advanced Materials Industry Promotion Association, jointly unveiled the Working Committee of the ICMU, which will further promote the construction of Beijing as an international science and technology innovation center.

  The International Carbon Materials Union (ICMU) is jointly initiated by more than 40 authoritative institutions in the world and is an international NGO focusing on carbon material technology and industrialization. Headquartered in Beijing, China, the ICMU focuses on the whole industrial chain of carbon materials and builds a platform for academic exchanges, consulting and training, achievement transformation, school-enterprise cooperation, international standardization research, international cooperation on technology and trade, to promote the coordinated development of the carbon material technology industry.
